Tasked by Clermont Auvergne Métropole as co-contractor with NGE to build the secant pile walls using double rotary drilling, the worksite was divided into two phases:
- Phase 1 was carried out by NGE in January 2022.
- Phase 2 is ongoing following an archaeological inspection and approximately 4lm of earthworks.
The distinctive characteristic of this worksite it that it has no direct access as the piles are being set up in the former hospital’s main courtyard. The outer walls are listed and must not be damaged.
The drilling rig as well as the excavator, cradle and all the equipment had to be craned from a platform outside the walls. The craned drilling rig, a Liebherr LB 28 model, weighs 68 tonnes (in transport mode and without counterweight)!
The worksite is scheduled to last approx. 6 weeks before the equipment can be removed.
Our workers have really risen to the challenge: we salute their ingenuity and respect for heritage.
